Yuki has suffered a traumatic childhood at the hands of Akito, the head of the Sohma clan. Akito locked him up and mentally tortured him. In effect, Yuki has a somewhat low sense of worth and a claustrophobic fear. With Tohru's help, however, Yuki is gradually able to loosen up.
Yuki's fangirls hate it when Yuki gets closer to Tohru, and use harassment to try to drive her away. They claim they are trying to "protect" Yuki from Tohru, but the truth is, they are merely bombarding him with one-sided love and adoration; Tohru's the one protecting Yuki. It was revealed that Yuki was the one who saved Tohru and brought her back to her mother when she was young and had gotten lost; Tohru has never forgotten that memory and keeps the hat (which actually belongs to Kyo) that Yuki gave to her. For that, Yuki always has a deep respect and love for Tohru for actually "needing" him.
Generally quiet and polite, Yuki is an amazing martial artist who enjoys gardening. He has a garden in a small patch of forest near the walkway leading to Shigure's house which he and Tohru call their "secret base".

give me your hand
I'm going to treat Honda-san today. I'm planning to go to the movies with her. Don't worry about Kyo-kun. I told Kagura-san the same thing.
On the phone: "We're going to the movies today, Kagura-san. I'm treating Tohru-kun so there's really a good chance that Kyo will be tagging along. We're planning to go to the OkaeriGenki theater. It's a newly built cinema, so we want to try it out. -- I repeat, there's a really good chance that Kyo will tag along." All Kagura-san said was "I hear you..." then she hung-up the phone.
Just as I've expected, Kyo decided to go with us. This will be interesting.
"Nani?! You're going to the movies with Tohru-kun?!... And she's all alone with you?! I won't allow it. She should have another company with her. Just what are you planning Yuki?" Kyo became restless with eyes filled with curiousity.
So the three of us went to the movies. I bought the ticket for me and Tohru-kun, while the cat bought his ticket for himself. Say, Kagura-san was pretty late. She was not at the theater yet when we arrived. It's pretty unexpected.
"Nothing." I replied. "I just want to pay the kindness Tohru-kun gives us everyday. She deserves it anyway, you know?"
"I better go with Tohru-kun. I don't trust rats." pointed Kyo.
"Yare yare. But I'm not treating you." You should know that Kyo.
"Who needs your treatment? I can manage with my own." Kyo sure is full of himself.
It's my first time to watch a movie with Tohru-kun. So, this is how it feels. I feel somehow shy and mushy towards her. When I try to form a sentence, it won't come out right so I depend with phrases like, "This movie's awesome" or "That's great, Tohru-kun.", but I seem to have trouble conversing with Tohru-kun inside. On the other hand, the cat is so busy babbling out loud that it's kinda disturbing the other viewers.
On the course of watching the movie, I saw Kyo make a move. It seemed like he was about to cuddle with Tohru-kun!
"Kyo! What are you doing?!" I shouted. "What?!" is what I get in return from him. Then everybody in the crowd said "SHOOOSH!" or "KEEP QUIET!" or "WE'RE
I laid silent after the movie. I felt jealous, embarrassed and beaten. If only I hadn't seen Kyo, maybe he could've made his move. But on the plus side, he could've transformed into a cat too.
WATCHING A MOVIE HERE!". Murmurs filled the air and I felt embarrassed.
When we made our way out, the sun was too bright so we couldn't see for a moment. Then somebody said "Kyo-kun! My beloved Kyo-kun!" It was Kagura-san waiting outside the theater. The movie was like 2-3 hours long! She waited there for that long? Wow...
"Ano, where is Kyo-kun?" Tohru asked after using the Ladies comfort room. "Uhm, he just realized something important. So, he went ahead. Sorry for that. I hope you don't mind, Tohru-kun." It was a clear excuse. She smiled at me and said "Not at all. Kyo-kun's sure busy these days, eh Yuki-kun?"
